Hi guys, if anyone is seeing the following error when posting or creating a new account, please just ignore it for the time being. You can still create accounts and make posts its just a pain in the bum at the mo.

Our hosting providers are having a problem with their email (smtp) servers which should be resolved soon.

The reason you see the error is because the forum cant log onto the servers to send an email to members who have posted in any given topic and have set their profile to receive an automated message to inform them that someone has posted something to the thread.

I've emailed the hosts and am waiting a response I'll post their reply when it comes.

Maybe consider using google apps' (gmail) smtp server for the board mailing needs. It would also take that load off the server, keeping the site as fast as possible.

Hiya Ladies, we found out why this problem was happening, which hopefully our web hosts have now resolved.

The problem was that our web hosts limit the amount of emails being sent per domain name, per hour, and as our forum is getting busier, of course the amount of mail being sent also grew.

This included confirmation emails being sent to new members when registering a new account/membership as well as notification emails being sent automatically by the board letting members know that someone has left a comment or responded to a particular thread - so when the daily email limit had been reached, then the board couldn't access the email server to send the mail and returned a confusing error message.

We've had our daily limits raised a bit but if it becomes an issue again we'll probably have to get our own dedicated server just to keep up with the traffic Gulp!
